Hyderabad , Aug. 31

THE State Chief Secretary, Dr Mohan Kanda, proposes to highlight the issues concerning the State at the 51st governing body meeting of the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) to be held at Niamey in Niger next month.

Icrisat is closely involved with the AP Government in the execution of watershed programmes, bio-diesel plantations, development of wastelands and AP Rural Livelihood Project. The Chief Secretary is one of the three members from India in the 15-member Icrisat board.

Dr Kanda's decision to attend the three-day Icrisat Board meeting starting September 7 assumed added significance in the light of External Programme Review (EPR) of 2003 recommending far reaching changes in Icrisat's activities and focus areas.
