FAPCCI hails Foreign Trade Policy

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Aug. 31

THE Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) has welcomed the Foreign Trade Policy announced by Mr Kamal Nath, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, on Tuesday.

"It is a well thought out holistic approach," Mr O.P. Goenka, President of FAPCCI, said here.

Commenting on the policy in a press release, Mr Goenka said the policy, if implemented well, would boost exports and double India's share in global merchandise by 2009. He said the special focus initiatives in the areas of agriculture, handicrafts, handlooms, gems, jewellery and leather goods would be of great help to Andhra Pradesh.

The Vishesh Krishi Upaj Yojana, a special agricultural produce scheme, would boost exporters of fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Welcoming the move to set up a special economic zone for handicrafts, Mr Goenka pointed out that there was a need for more such special zones.

"The idea of establishing common facilities centre for promotion of engineering and architectural design, multi media operations, software developers in cities and downs will generate a lot employment opportunities," the FAPCCI President said.

"It will also help overcome the digital divide."
