Computer telephony integration centre

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , Sept. 2

DR Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) has joined hands with Servion Global Solutions Ltd for establishing a `Computer Telephony Integration (CTI)' centre at the college.

This industry-academia arrangement, MCET sources say, would help generate CTI professionals for the high growth telecom industry.

MCET has invested Rs 20 lakh in the first phase and proposes to pump in an equal amount in the next phase towards integrating the facilities and upgrading the Centre.

The duration of the course is expected to be 120 hours or one semester and the intake is to be restricted to 12 per batch.

The Vice-Chairman of Servion, Mr Baskar Subramanian, told Business Line that the business of call centre training did not end with employing a few 1,000 persons to attend to calls. "A whole lot of technology will have to be managed at the backend. Though obvious, this backend service of managing the infrastructure is not visible, and most systems integrators handle it post facto. With India emerging as the ideal destination for cost effective services, we will need a breed of people for managing IT, telecom and software."
