Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The Handlooms and Textiles Department of Andhra Pradesh, through various agencies, is imparting training to 1,600 weavers this year in dyeing, weaving, design development and development of managerial skills under the Integrated Handloom Training Project at a cost of Rs 2.44 crore.

Mr G.N. Rao, Commissioner of Handlooms and Chairman of the State Level Training Committee, said the training programme involved improvement of weavers' skills, supply of toolkits and payment of Rs 100 a day as stipend to the participants.

He urged the Union government to enhance the target under the programme so as to impart training to 500 more weavers this year. Last year, the training programme, with an outlay of Rs 40.62 lakh, covered 500 weavers.
