ACC, Ambuja Cement Aug shipments rise

WHILE The Associated Cement Companies and the Ambuja Cement group reported year-on-year increase in dispatches for August, 2004, Grasim Industries and its new group company, UltraTech Cement, reported lower dispatches, citing that the transporters' strike had affected them adversely.

ACC reported a 5.59 per cent increase in dispatches, year-on-year, for August. Despatches amounted to 12.46 lakh tonnes (11.8 lakh tonnes).

Production at ACC rose 3.3 per cent, to 12.11 lakh tonnes during the month.

The Ambuja group has reported a 6 per cent growth in sales, at 10.08 lakh tonnes (9.5 lakh tonnes) for August; and a 9 per cent growth in production, at 10.23 lakh tonnes (9.36 lakh tonnes).

Grasim saw a decrease of 4.92 per cent in dispatches, which were at 9.4 lakh tonnes, and a decrease of 0.46 per cent in production, at 9.46 lakh tonnes.

UltraTech Cement reported 11.13 per cent decline in dispatches, at 7.77 lakh tonnes, in August; and a 7.99 per cent decline in production, at 7.89 lakh tonnes.
