IPR Farmers' Rights Act gets Cabinet nod Our Bureau
New Delhi , Sept. 2 THE Cabinet on Thursday approved amendments to the Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmers' Rights Act, 2001 (PPV&FR) that provides for the establishment of an effective system for the protection of plant breeder's rights. The Act fulfils India's obligation under Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) of World Trade Organisation (WTO). This will also stimulate investments in research for the development of new plant varieties and facilitate the growth of the seed industry in the country. It will ensure availability of quality seeds to the farmers.
