Mumbai , Sept. 3

TRENT Ltd, which owns and operates the Westside chain of department stores, is entering into mass market retailing under the brand name `Star India Bazaar'.

Star India Bazaar will be launched in Ahmedabad in a few months, Trent said in a news release.

The Star India Bazaar hypermarket is being targeted at the budget-conscious consumers, the company said. The product offerings could include staple foods, beverages, health and beauty products, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, household items, garments and consumer electronics.

"After having established the Westside name as a leading player in the apparel retailing industry, we look forward to presenting customers across India with the widest variety of products at Star India Bazaar," the release quoted Ms Simone Tata, Chairperson, Trent Ltd.

Each Star India Bazaar hypermarket will be around 50,000 square feet in size. Products at Star India Bazaar will be discounted. These hypermarkets will also stock in-house Trent brands.

Trent Ltd, a Tata Group company, began its apparel-retailing venture under the Westside brand. The company has set up 14 stores across nine cities and plans to expand in both existing and new cities.
