GM posts 70 pc growth

GENERAL Motors India has recorded over 70 per cent growth in the first eight months of 2004 with total sales of 15,310 cars as compared to 8,986 vehicles sold in the year-ago period.

These included 6,282 Chevy Optra in Entry D Luxury sedan segment; 6,164 Opel Corsas and 2,702 units of the recently launched multi-utility vehicle, Chevrolet Tavera.

In August2004, GM sold 2,262 cars against 1,701 sold in August 2003. This was a 33 per cent growth. These included 1,002 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 605 units of Chevrolet Optra and 654 units of Opel Corsa.

The company said it plans to bring more Chevrolet products specifically designed for India.
