NHPC contract for VA Tech

THE National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has awarded a work contract to VA Tech Hydro India Pvt Ltd for a electro-mechanical job in the 132-mw Teesta (low dam-III) hydel power project in Darjeeling district of West Bengal.

The work package is valued at Rs 222.76 crore and the job is to be completed in 39 months.

The contract agreement was signed by Mr Digvijai Nath, General Manager, NHPC, and Mr Keith Douglass, Director, VA Tech, in the presence of the NHPC Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Yogendra Prasad, an NHPC statement here said.

NHPC is executing the Teesta hydel power project in the Central sector at an estimated cost of Rs 768.92 crore. Likely to be completed by October 2007, the project is expected to generate about 594.1 million units of electricity annually.
