Strategy Variety - Entertainment & Leisure TV Today to invest Rs 7.5 cr in Aaj Tak, Headlines Today Sindhu J. Bhattacharya
New Delhi , Sept. 3 TV Today Network (TVTN) has earmarked Rs 7.5 crore investment this fiscal in its two news channels - Aaj Tak and Headlines Today. TVTN has decided to relaunch Aaj Tak in a new avatar from Monday with a complete overhaul of design and presentation of news. "For the last 10 months, we have been working on a new look for Aaj Tak. The channel relaunch will showcase a new studio, a change in logo, bold colours and a very classy presentation style of news. International consultancies JUMP and GOSU have created its new look and the total investment in the relaunch will be Rs 2.5 crore," TVTN CEO, Mr G. Krishnan, told Business Line. Dismissing growing competition in the 24-hour Hindi news channel market with the entry of new players, Mr Krishnan said: "Aaj Tak is a clear leader with 32 per cent share of the total news channel pie as per latest TAM figures. It has a viewership of 30 million." He also said that the company would be putting in Rs 5 crore in marketing Headlines Today through a dedicated media campaign and new advertising beginning next week. The channel was started last year but has not been aggressively marketed till date, he said, adding that the new communication will be through print, outdoor, radio and television advertising. The campaign will retain the channel catchphrase, `Sharp News for Sharp People'. The Headlines Today team comprises 90 staff, which will be expanded by another 20-30 over the next few months. On whether the network was keen on tapping overseas markets, Mr Krishnan said: "Our satellite already has footprints in West Asia and neighbouring countries but we will begin a foray into other overseas markets next year."
