IN a bid to attract foreign investment from the UAE, the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI) is going to hold its 40th annual convention in Dubai.
The three-day convention, which will begin from September 9, has plans to make a special presentation on "Brand India" with the objective of instilling confidence to the foreign investor to invest in India.
With the user-friendly foreign direct investment (FDI) policies adopted by the Union Government, the association feels that the convention can act as a catalyst towards attracting foreign investment in Indian tourism sector, which will require about Rs 25,000 crore to create necessary infrastructure for facilitating accommodation and movement of tourists to India and also within the country.
According to an FHRAI source, about 450 delegates from the country have already registered their names with the federation showing keen interest to participate in the convention. The number of delegates is expected to cross 500. Of the total delegates registered so far, 80 each are from the southern and northern region, about 50 from the eastern region and the balance from the western region.
The source said that Dubai had been chosen as the venue for this year's convention, since it has made rapid strides in tourism for the last few years and has emerged as a leading conference destination. Almost all international airlines connect Dubai, facilitating about five million tourists to visit the city in the fiscal 2003-04.
