IIL bags FMD vaccine supply order from Iraq

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Sept. 5

INDIAN Immunologicals Ltd (IIL), a subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has received an order for 2 million doses of foot and mouth diseases (FMD) vaccine from Iraq's Agriculture Ministry.

IIL was selected among other international suppliers viz Vetal of Turkey, Merial of France and Bayer of Germany.

The company had, in the past too, supplied animal vaccines to Iraq.

However, following the outbreak of war in June 2003, the vaccine supply came to a halt.

Following the formation of the new government and its decision to once again procure vaccines from India, IIL expects the procurement to continue with repeat orders in the near future.

The company also supplies vaccines for the Centre's FMD control project covering 54 districts in 9 States.

IIL's plant in Hyderabad has a capacity of 60 million doses.

The company is also a major supplier of FMD vaccine to Food and Agriculture Organisation.
