Oilseeds & Edible Oil Plea to include soyameal in farm produce scheme Our Bureau
Chennai , Sept. 6 THE Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA) has urged the Commerce Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, to include soyameal under the "Vishesh Krishi Upaj Yojana" or the Special Farm Produce Scheme. In a letter to Mr Nath, the SOPA President, Mr Rajesh Agrawal, said inclusion of soyameal in the scheme would not only boost the industry but also ensure good production of oilseeds by the farmers. The Special Farm Produce Scheme, announced in the Foreign Export Policy, is aimed at promoting shipments of fruits, vegetables, flowers and minor forest produce and their value-added products from the country. As per the proposal, these exports will be entitled for duty credit scrip for each licensing year starting April this year. Stating that soyameal and de-oiled cake exports earned foreign exchange to the tune of Rs 3,500 crore every year, Mr Agrawal said bringing soyameal under the scheme would help encourage in building a brand for it in the global market. "This will help double export earnings in the next 3-5 years," he said.
