Phonak kicks off Indian operations

Chennai , Sept. 6

PHONAK AG, the Swiss hearing systems company, has set up its Indian operation through Phonak AG (India) to launch its products. At a press conference to announce the launch here today, Phonak AG's Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), Mr Christian Stromsted, said that the Indian company will help strengthen its operations, including after-sales service.

The company's product range will continue to be imported from Switzerland, but the level of expertise available here will be upgraded.

Phonak range of products has been available in India over the last few years through a distributor.

Phonak sees the Asian region, including China, where it has a manufacturing facility, and Japan, as a major market. The company's global turnover of about $570 million comes primarily from the US and Europe which account for about 90 per cent of the business.

Mr Rene Burgin, International Sales, Audiology and Product Education, Phonak AG, said that the company will educate the professionals, including medical specialists and audiologists about the product.

Workshops for testing and fitting the hearing systems will also be organised.

The price of Phonak products range between Rs 10,000 and Rs 60,000, with some specialised features in the high-end products.

Phonak also makes hearing systems and accessories that enable the hearing impaired to use them under various conditions, such as in a conference hall or in a classroom.

Phonak's range covers the needs of adults and children, he said.

Some advanced models include remote-operated with the controls in a watch. With a turn of the rim on the dial, the volume can be controlled.

Other accessories include FM wireless communication systems, ideal for use in conference hall or class room, facility for wireless communication for use on mobile phones equipped with blue tooth and for linking up with a lap top, he said.
