Politics Karnataka Govt to finalise Rs 300-cr IT corridor project Our Bureau
100 DAYS: The Chief Minister, Mr N. Dharam Singh, at a meet the press' in Bangalore on Monday. - K. Gopinathan
Bangalore , Sept. 6 THE State Government will finalise a proposal to develop an IT corridor along the Hosur Road in the Electronic City. The details of the project, estimated to cost more than Rs 300 crore, were being worked out. This was among the significant steps being taken by the Congress (I) - led coalition Government, which completed its 100 days in power on Sunday. Listing the Government's achievement at a `meet-the press' event here on Monday, the Chief Minister, Mr N. Dharam Singh, sought to remove the impression that the Government had done very little since it assumed power. He said despite the constraints of two parties, which had fought bitterly against each other before the election, being at the helm of affairs, several steps taken by the Government had brought relief to people. He cited the ONGC's proposed Rs 25,000-crore investment in developing a special coastal economic zone for natural gas and an LNG terminal in the State and an MoU signed with Power Grid Corporation for improving the transmission system at an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore and the `take off' state of the Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli as the other notable achievements of his Government. He said steps have been taken to expedite irrigation projects both in Cauvery and Krishna basins and he expected them to be completed by December 2005. On the controversial decision of stalling the Arkavati layout formation soon after assuming power, Mr Singh assured that that the project would be completed by next January. Twenty thousand sites, as originally announced by the Bangalore Development Authority, would be distributed from January 15. He also announced the plan to develop another layout at Kengeri, which had been conceived as a satellite township to ease the city congestion. It will be the largest layout with 50,000 sites and was expected to be ready by July next year. He recounted the measures announced by the coalition government through its Common Minimum Programme covering education, agriculture, health and infrastructure facilities and said through the Budget adequate allocations had been made to improve the facilities. On political issue, he said the coalition partners had no difference of opinion on major issues and would work as a cohesive unit to fulfil their obligations as the elected representatives of the people.
