Crafts exhibition begins in Mumbai

Mumbai , Sept. 7

PARAMPARIK Karigar, an organisation of Indian craftspeople, is holding an exhibition of works of 75 craftsmen in painting, weaving, dyeing, carving, pottery, printing and metal casting embroidery here this week.

The exhibition, which began on Tuesday, will be in two parts - an arts exhibition followed by a textile exhibition.

The various works that will be on display include kalamkari work from Andhra Pradesh, miniature paintings from Rajasthan, pattachitra from Orissa, mithila art from Bihar, warli paintings from Maharashtra and palm leaf etching from Orissa.

Crafts in wood include wood carvings from Orissa, wood and lac finish utensils from Gujarat, tribal wooden figures from Jharkhand and wooden combs from Andhra Pradesh.

The exhibition also includes silver filigree ornaments from Orissa, leather puppets from Andhra Pradesh and pottery from a few States.

The textile exhibition includes a range of sarees from various States and exotic fabrics with unusual prints.
