THE tourism industry will observe September 15 as a `black day' to protest against the Delhi Government's recent notification levying a luxury tax on the published tariff rates of hotel rooms as also the levy of a service tax.

In a statement, the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) has said that this was decided at an open house here on Thursday. "On September 15, tourism professionals belonging to various travel agent federations, tour and hotel organisations would wear black bands and display black flags at their offices," the IATO President, Mr Subhash Goyal, said.

Further, the industry would send letters to all MPs and MLAs on this.

The Delhi Government on Tuesday notified the imposition of a 10 per cent luxury tax on the published room rates of hotels.
