Ma Foi to launch training course for nurses

Anjali Prayag

Bangalore , Sept. 9

TO cater to the growing global healthcare sector, Ma Foi will soon launch a `finishing school' for nurses.

According to Mr K Pandia Rajan, Managing Director of this Chennai-based search and HR services company, "To start with, we will train nurses from the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences in Coimbatore. Subsequently, we hope to scale it other parts of the country."

In fact, Ma Foi is already in talks with 20-odd institutes across the country for similar tie-ups and will take the franchising route for the same, he added.

The three-month course will focus on preparing nurses for jobs in the US and Canada. As part of the programme, the nursing staff will be trained to take CGFNS, a statutory exam for nurses in the US. "We will also prepare them to take the IELTS, which is a test of English language," Mr Pandia Rajan told Business Line.

"Though these nurses are already medically trained, they have to be trained to handle offshore jobs," he said. And this will include acclimatising them on cultural aspects of working abroad.

The programme, to be launched in the second week of October, will be conducted in the hospital premises. "We hope to train around 500 nurses in the next one year," according to him.

Ma Foi, which has similar programmes for candidates in the IT and ITES sectors, is already preparing around 2,000 people for jobs in these areas. Talking of trends in the recruitment industry, Mr Rajan said temp staffing is increasingly being accepted in the country. He also felt that it was time for the country to bring in more people under the net of the organised sector. Citing the example of the Netherlands, he said that for a week's job of tulip picking, temping agencies were used there.

"In India out of the 40 crore employed in the country, only about seven per cent are in the organised sector," he revealed.
