Rlys handles 237 mt freight in April-Aug

INDIAN Railways carried 237.20 million tonnes (mt) of revenue earning freight during the first five months of the current financial year ending August 2004 compared with 223.04 mt of such traffic during the corresponding period of the previous year, representing an increase of 14.16 mt.

The target of 235.40 mt for the period was exceeded by 1.80 mt, says an official statement. The annual target of freight traffic is 580 mt, according to the statement.

During August 2004, a total of 46.28 mt of revenue earning freight was loaded compared to 44.41 mt during the corresponding month of the last year. This represented an increase of 1.87 mt.
