Bhubaneswar , Sept. 10

ORISSA Mining Corporation Ltd, an Orissa Government undertaking, has started implementing enterprise resource planning (ERP) project for effective handling of its expanding business volumes and to achieve greater synergy in the organisation.

The company has selected the Bangalore-based Bigtec Private Ltd as its implementation partner for the world's leading ERP software — SAP R/3.

It is one of the premier companies of the country and is Orissa's leading public sector enterprise with a record turnover of about Rs 372 crore in 2003-04. It is also one of the first PSUs to be ISO-9000 certified in the 2000 version.

Recently, it had become debt-free and has contributed a substantial amount to the State exchequer in the form of dividends from its profits in 2002-03 and 2003-04.

According to the company release, SAP R/3 will be first implemented at its headoffice here and at one of its regional offices. It will be rolled-out to the other five regional offices in due course. The implementation of the project will span a period of eight months.

The entire processaims to transform the e-literacy levels at OMC from the current levels to world-class standards, the release said.

The project was kicked-off onTuesday. The company authorities are also planning to implement video conferencing across at all its branches in the State.
