Free gift parcels may be sent via sea post

New Delhi , Sept. 10

THE Finance Ministry has clarified that import of "free gift parcels" (including courier) is permitted by sea post as well as by air.

An official release on Friday said that free gift parcels could also be exported by sea post. The clarification comes in response to the queries raised by trade on whether free gift parcels up to Rs 10,000 can be imported only by air and not through sea.

The Ministry has highlighted that the customs clearance for such postal goods are done at the foreign post offices. While calculating the value limit of Rs 10,000 for free gift parcels, the postal charges that also include cost of sea freight are not taken into consideration.
