Policy Industry & Economy - Power Power subsidy to poor households in AP Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Sept. 10 THE Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to give a subsidy of Rs 10 to all the households whose monthly electricity charges are a minimum of Rs 25 at present. Announcing this, the State Finance Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah said a total of about 13.92 lakh household across the State would directly benefit from it. The decision will mean the State Government has to cough up Rs 16.70 crore per annum. Mr Rosaiah said the Government will bear this burden once the Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTransco), gets the `green signal' for the proposal from the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), which is mandatory. The Finance Minister told newspersons that the Government decided to waive Rs 10, which constitutes the cost of energy that is consumed by a single 40 watt bulb, operational for a total of six hours. The Finance Minister had stating in the Legislative Assembly, that a comprehensive survey was under way to establish the number of people using just single bulb in the State.
