Bank credit rises by Rs 24,114 cr

BANK credit for the fortnight ended August 27, increased by Rs 24,114 crore to touch Rs 9,08,309 crore.

While food credit declined by Rs 2,428 crore to end at Rs 39,865 crore, non-food credit rose by Rs 26,541 crore to Rs 8,68,444 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investments in shares or debentures or bonds or commercial papers moved to touch Rs 9,50,108 crore as on August 20.

Loans and advances provided by the RBI to the Central Government grew by Rs 1,710 crore, while those provided to the State Government declined by Rs 1,090 crore to touch Rs 1,281 crore.
