Oilseeds & Edible Oil Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports Oilmeal exports jump 260% during April-August Our Bureau
Mumbai , Sept. 12 EXPORTS of oilmeal during April to August 2004 increased to 12,40,236 tonnes from 3,43,900 tonnes in the same period of last year, up by 8,43,900 tonnes or nearly 260 per cent thanks to good demand for South East Asia and China. The total export of oilmeal during the nine months of current oil year (November 2003 to August 2004) increased to 40,38,036 tonnes as against 16,13,400 tonnes, up by nearly 150 per cent, according to data complied by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA). However, exports for the month of August were down to 80,386 tonnes compared to 1,24,100 tonnes in the same period last year. Out of total exports during the five months of the current year, soyabean meal export is reported at 7,76,000 tonnes and mainly exported to South Korea (179,925 tonnes), Indonesia (163,450 tonnes), Vietnam (81,000 tonnes), Japan (69,725 tonnes), Thailand (72,525 tonnes) and Malaysia (60,500 tonnes). Rapeseed meal export during the review period is reported at 3,30,175 tonnes mainly exported to South Korea (152,775 tonnes), China (47,475 tonnes), Abu Dhabi (26,875 tonnes) and Thailand (27,475 tonnes Groundnut meal export is reported at 1,01,075 tonnes, mainly exported to China (49,975 tonnes), Vietnam (21,300 tonnes) and Thailand (22,475 tonnes). The total exports for April-August 2004 from Kandla, a major port handling oilmeal exports, has been reported at 548,150 tonnes (44 per cent). This is followed by Mumbai which handled 256,750 tonnes (21 pc), Bedi that handled 242,275 tonnes (19 pc), Vizag handled 85,625 tonnes (7 pc), Bhavnagar handled 46,925 tonnes (4 pc), Kakinada handled 35,111 tonnes (3 pc) and Mundra handled 25,400 tonnes (2 pc).
