No fishing in troubled waters

H. Vibhu

Sand bags lined up to check the advancing sea at South Chellanam. The fishing gap at Kandakadavu has become non-functional as sea advanced. Local fishermen have been demanding construction of a `pulimuttu' or barrier to cut the waves down and make the fishing gap hospitable for fishing boats. They complain spending about Rs 5,000 daily to launch their boats from the nearest fish landing gap at Fort Kochi. The new Minister for Fisheries, Mr Dominic Presentation, has listed the construction of the fishing harbour as a top priority.
