Newage reaches out to the under-privileged in Pune

Pune , Sept. 12

EDUCATION, donation of toys to HIV-affected children, sponsoring cricket matches are on the social responsibility agenda of the Pune-based power solutions company, Newage AVKSEG.

Mr Pradeep Bhargava, Managing Director, Newage, said that the company is now offering Stamford scholarship to the deserving students in Ahmednagar, who are unable to afford the fees. A hunt in the engineering colleges/junior colleges in Ahmednagar had been undertaken to find the meritorious students and the panel has awarded the scholarship to Mr Chandrakant Bhos — a son of a poor farmer — who had stood second in the 12th standard examination.

The company would mentor Mr Chandrakant till he completes his education, Mr Pradeep said.

Besides education, he pointed out that it is also carrying out work such as donations of toys to HIV-affected children, organising blood donation camps along with Red Cross, as also felicitating children with special needs, who are being rehabilitated by the NGO `Akanksha.'

Induction of a physically challenged girl in the materials dispatch section of the company is the first step in this direction, he said.

He noted that lady technicians have also been recruited on the shop floor of the company.

On the lighter side, Mr Pradeep said the company has sponsored cricket matches for the industries in the MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Area) area and added that it has also set aside one per cent of the total turnover for its social responsibilities.
