2 lakh t more sugar under free sale quota

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Sept. 13

THE Union Government has released two lakh tonnes of sugar as additional quota for indigenous free sale for September.

This is in addition to 15.16 lakh tonnes of sugar already released for this month as free sale plus levy quota. Thus, total quota for the current month will be 17.16 lakh tonnes.

"As a result, sugar prices (late evening) at the Vashi market are down by Rs 20 per quintal after the announcement. Prices may fall further by more Rs 20 per quintal in the next few days," a trader said.

In the morning session, sugar prices were moved down at the Vashi wholesale market due to limited buying from retailers supported by increased offerings.
