Stage and state of crops: Harvesting is in progress in `Virippu' paddy while the `Mundakan' crop has reached the nursery to transplanting stages. Weeding and manuring are apace in coconut, arecanut, pepper, banana, rubber, tapioca and vegetables. New planting is being taken up in banana, tapioca and vegetables where harvesting has been completed. Rubber tapping is also progressing. Pepper is in the berry developing stage. Farm advisory: Harvesting of the `Virippu' crop and nursery maintenance and transplanting with respect to the `Mundakan' crop can be pursued in paddy. Weeding, manuring and fertiliser application can be continued in almost all crops. New planting can be taken up in banana, tubers and seasonal vegetables. Spraying of one per cent Bordeaux mixture can be resorted to if only to control wilt in pepper, leaf rot in coconut and `mahali' in arecanut. Severe attack of brown plant hopper has been reported from Palakkad. Draining of the fields is recommended to control the pest population.
