`Power utilities keen on offering good service'

Hyderabad , Sept. 15

POWER utilities in the State have developed the system of providing power connections within 24 hours in urban areas where additional poles are not required, according to the Chairperson and Managing Director of Transmission Corporation of AP (APTransco), Ms Rachel Chatterjee.

Speaking at a national workshop on power on Wednesday, Ms Chatterjee said that APTransco had formulated a masterplan to minimise transmission and distribution losses. On the other hand, the distribution companies were planning to launch more sub-divisional centres to meet the requirements of electricity consumers.

She also said that the State power utilities were geared up to meet any challenges and compete with any power utility either in the public or private sector in the country. APTransco and distribution companies have also adopted best practices for providing better services particularly in the rural areas, she added.

The Managing Director of AP Generation Corporation, Mr Ajay Jain, outlined the forthcoming power projects in the State. The former Chairman of AP State Electricity Board (APSEB), Mr K. Balram Reddy, emphasised the need to strengthen the power sector to meet the challenges in the context of Indian Electricity Act 2003.

The APSEB Engineers Association, which organised the workshop, felicitated Mr Reddy on completion of 45 years of service in the power sector.
