Rubber orchids going places

Aravindan

Kottayam , Sept. 16

THERE are over 35,000 products made out of rubber, which is used in almost every sphere of human activity. But the one recently introduced is quiet different from the other products, and it is found to be aesthetically pleasing.

Orchids made of rubber, besides being attractive, last for long. Nowadays, drawing rooms are decorated with plastic flowers. But orchids made of rubber are truly eye-catching. Though different varieties of flowers are made of plastics, their rough surface reduces attraction and market value.

Producing artificial flowers from rubber is not a novel idea. Rubber flowers exported from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, have captured world markets and have become `best sellers.'

Rubber orchids are made from specially prepared rubber latex. They are eco-friendly and create no pollution problems. These qualities enhance their environmental importance and market value, says Dr Sibi Varghese of the Rubber Research Institute of India, Kottayam.
