Software Totus to train HCL mid-managers Our Bureau
Chennai , Sept. 17 HCL Technologies has started to groom its middle-level managers as future leaders. It has sought the help of the Chennai-based Totus Consulting, a strategic human resource consulting firm, to train its middle-level managers to increase their leadership capabilities, said Mr R. Vaidyanathan, Executive Vice-President, HCL Technologies. Branded as `Made in HCL', the six months in-house programme aims at increasing the capabilities of business leadership with remarkable effects on business results, he said. According to Mr Vaidyanathan, who is also the Global Head for HR at HCL Technologies, middle-level management capabilities have been and will continue to be a challenge in the software services industry. `Made in HCL' plans to cover all the project managers in the company. It has already covered 50 managers in Chennai, and the next batch of 50 is scheduled to start this month. HCL has 250 project managers at its six centres in Chennai, he said. The programme's primary objective is to create quality leaders with capabilities to address company's growth, and retaining middle level managers is only a secondary issue. "We feel, we have now found a service model to handle the churn out of the middle management, which is the biggest challenge for the IT services industry," he told newspersons. Mr Ganesh Chella, CEO, Totus Consulting, said that Made in HCL was a cultural shift from training to learning. It is about developing business leadership, which in turn is about personal change. Made in HCL has three phases - discovery, learning and evaluation. Some of the learning methods include coaching, classroom sessions, learning labs, projects, reading assignments and on-the-job projects, said Mr Chella, who is also the programme director for Made in HCL.
