Automatic teller machines (ATMs) are becoming increasingly popular in Kerala. With nearly 700 ATMs of various banks, the State accounts for five per cent of the total national figures. But in ATM density, Kerala is leading in the country.

Banks are reportedly targetting to install 200 more ATMs during the current financial year. State Bank of Travancore has the largest number (206) of ATMs in the State.

A few months ago, Kochi became the first city in the country to launch a floating ATM. ATMs are no longer confined to banking alone. Some banks offer facilities like mobile charging, railway ticket booking, telephone bill remittance etc. using the ATM in Kochi city.
