AS part of its one-year action plan, the State Government will look at setting up industrial parks in districts that currently do not have such units, the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, said.
The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) will be responsible for setting up these parks, he added.
Each new industrial park will be devoted to food processing or apparel or small industries. The State Government will attempt to obtain financial assistance from the Central Government for these projects, Mr Chandy said.
In fact, the Union Government offers financial assistance to industrial parks that focus on apparel, food processing and small industries, he pointed out.
Addressing the media after visiting the Kinfra International Apparel Park and the Kinfra Film and Video Park located on the outskirts of the city, the Chief Minister said Kinfra parks should serve as a "model for Kerala". The State's economic progress can be assured with such projects, he added.
The Industries Minister, Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty, and senior officials of the State Industries Department and Kinfra accompanied the Chief Minister.
