EVMs for local body polls in Kerala

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Election Commission has recommended to the Government that electronic voting machines (EVMs) be deployed during elections to the local bodies scheduled for September next.

This was announced here by Mr N. Mohandas, Election Commissioner, on Thursday. Earlier in the day, he watched the demonstration of the new EVMs presented by the Electronic Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL).

EVMs used in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections earlier this year could be used to cast only two votes. However, the new machines can be used to cast eight votes at one go. The machines have been designed to suit the multi-poll, multi-post system, Mr Mohandas said.
