Hyderabad , Sept. 17

HYDERABAD has successfully attracted the global attention for its medical capabilities in the areas of complex heart and liver surgeries.

It is slowly gearing up to achieve similar distinctions in the area of critical orthopaedic surgeries, according to the senior medical professionals at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Ltd (KIMS) here.

Addressing a press conference to announce the success of an orthopaedic surgery, the Director of KIMS, Dr A.V. Guruva Reddy, said the hospital performed a `Revision Total Hip Replacement' for the patient at one-fourth cost compared with the medical expenses in the US.

Ms Renate, the US citizen, expressing happiness over the medical help said she would take up the matter with Senators back home to propagate the cost-effective and superior medical services available in India.

According to Dr Reddy, the patient had a hip replacement (replacement of ball and socket joint in the hip) around 22 years back in the US. As the hip is loose, the old ball and socket were taken out and a revision hip replacement was done at KIMS.

"This is quite a complex procedure and done only in advanced joint replacement centres across the globe. This is a unique example of the ability of Indian surgeons and availability of world-class infrastructure offering complex surgeries even for people from advanced countries," Dr Reddy said.

Stating that most of the advanced countries were facing the problems of expensive medical services and health insurance facilities, Dr Reddy said the cheaper medical services in India in general and Hyderabad in particular were attracting the patients from various parts of the world for complex surgeries.
