THE Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Mr Oscar Fernandes, said the Union Government is likely to come out with a legislation on AIDS control in a year.

Addressing newspersons in Udupi on Friday, he said the National AIDS Control Organisation has prepared a draft on AIDS legislation. This will be discussed in a `Youth Parliament' on November 7 and 8.

Youth from universities and the Nehru Yuva Kendras will participate in the Youth Parliament. The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will participate in its discussions, Mr Fernandes said.

Discussions will also be held with voluntary organisations.

The Union Government will set up `special treatment centres' for AIDS patients in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur.
