FIRST Indian Corporation (FIC), a subsidiary of First American Corporation, a large data provider plans to ramp up its Indian operations to 4,200 people from the present 2,500 over the next two to three years. The company plans to set up a development centre in Hyderabad in addition to its existing facility in Bangalore.

Mr Anoop Hegde, Country Manager, FIC said the bulk of the manpower scale up would be in the company's call centre operations, which currently has some 200 people. "We plan to add around 800 people to our call centre operations, double our software development team to 500 and add another 800 people to our back office team of 2000 over the next 18-24 months," he said.

Mr Hegde declined to comment on the company's investment plans to expand operations, but said that it has already invested around $40 million over last 10 years in setting and expanding India operations, bulk of it in the last two-three years.

The Indian operation provides 40 separate functions and services for multiple First American Companies in the US.

The company is also evaluating several alternatives for a third facility in Mysore, Chennai and Mangalore, the plan of which is to be finalised soon.

Meanwhile, FIC is exploring opportunities with various governmental and private sector groups for the possibility of introduction of products such as Title Insurance and Credit Reporting into the business infrastructure in India.
