Pension scheme for Telangana martyrs

THE Union Cabinet will shortly take up the long pending issue related to payment of pension to Martyrs of the Telangana Armed Struggle, the Union Home Minister, Mr Shivaraj Patil, said here. It is estimate that about Rs 70 crore would be needed annually.

Mr Patil was here to address a meeting of State Chief Ministers and to work out a roadmap for tackling extremist violence. Addressing Telangana martyrs who fought for the freedom of the State, he said that the long pending issue relating to pension to freedom fighters is under active consideration of the Central Government.

Advocating a concerted effort to tackle extremist violence across the country, Mr Patil said States have the freedom to chose the strategy they prefer to adopt -- that is either by going in for talks or any other method to address the problem.
