Software Wipro gets more land to expand operations in AP Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Sept. 24 THE Andhra Pradesh Government has agreed to allot 20 acres of land at Manikonda near here to the information technology major Wipro for expanding its operations. It also agreed to consider Wipro's request for 50-100 acres more land in Hyderabad for the third phase expansion. The company also made a proposal for expanding its operations to Visakhapatnam. Mr J.C. Mohanty, Principal Secretary (IT, Govt of AP), said Mr Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro Corporation, met the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, here on Friday. Talking to presspersons after the meeting, Mr Mohanty said the Wipro Chairman had explained various products from the company that could be of great help for the people in the fields of education, health and energy. For one, Mr Premji spoke on multi-monitor system with a single CPU for use in schools. During the brief meeting, Mr Premji said that the Azim Premji Foundation would work to increase the spread of quality universal education. The foundation would work closely with the State Government to provide quality healthcare facilities. Dr Rajasekhara Reddy asked Mr Premji to expand Wipro's operations in Hyderabad by launching IT-enabled services. Conveying the State's desire to extend support to the company's plans, Dr Reddy also asked the IT major to start operations at Visakhapatnam. Responding to his appeal, Mr Premji said he would certainly consider the proposal, sources in the Government said.
