A DISTRICT level joint action committee of the major textile workers (JAC) is meeting here on September 29 when the issue of framing the demand on payment of bonus for the mill workers for the 2003-04 would be discussed, the trade unions sources said.

The meeting is likely to seek the textile mills in Coimbatore and neighbouring Erode district to expedite the process of bonus settlement.

In the absence of a central bonus accord with any textile mill management forum or a long-term bonus accord in vogue, the mills and the workers' unions in the region use to work out bonus settlements at unit level prior to Deepavali through individual negotiation and settlement for the past five years.
