Baalu inaugurates Nellore bypass

THE Rs 173-crore Nellore Bypass, built by NYSE Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd, as part of the Chennai-Kolkata section of the Golden Quadrilateral project, was formally inaugurated on Tuesday by the Union Minister of Shipping, Roads and Highways, Mr T.R. Baalu.

The bypass project has been completed ahead of its scheduled October 2004 by NYSE on build, operate and transfer, BOT (annuity) basis. The four-laning of a 17-km stretch in Nellore town on the NH-5, would smoothen traffic flows in the town as well as the highway.

Mr Rajendra Prasad Maganti, Chairman of NYSE Infrastructure, said the bypass project was the first BOT (annuity) project completed amongst all such taken up by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

NYSE Infrastructure, a joint venture between Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd., and Soma Enterprises Ltd, would be responsible for the maintenance of the bypass for the next 15 years, according to a company press release here.

The Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Mr K.H. Munniappa, and the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, also participated in the inaugural function.
