Upgrading small airports

It is heartening to read that the Civil Aviation Ministry is embarking on upgradation of non-metro airports. It has become necessary not only to make domestic air travel more convenient, but also to avoid congestion at metro airports. Even today, transit passengers do not always get overnight accommodation, even in metro airports.

At present, planes fly from metro cities in the early morning to the non-metro cities and return to metro cities in the late morning. If aircraft maintenance and berthing facilities are created in non-metro cities, more people will take to travel by air, mainly because they will be able to fly back home (to the non-metro cities) by night.
