Consumers can buy meters on their own, says KSEB

THE Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has decided to allow the consumers to buy meters on their own.
Besides, the board will simplify the procedures for giving service connections. These decisions were taken at a full-board meeting of KSEB on Wednesday.
It was also decided to entrust the Deputy Chief Engineers with the purchase of items required for the time-bound completion of the State Government's 100-day programme.
The Deputy Chief Engineers have also been empowered to go in for one-time settlement of disputes with consumers for amounts up to Rs 25,000. The settlement could also be effected through six instalments. The disputes will be settled between October 1 and December 31 this year.
The full-board meeting also decided to allow leave surrender facility to the board's employees at the rate of 20 days a year.
The pension commutation facility now available to State Government employees will be extended to the board's employees, who will also get three instalments of dearness allowance (DA) as in the case of the Government staff.
This will be at the rate of three per cent from July 1, 2002, and January 1, 2003, and four per cent from July 1, 2003.
The DA will be available along with the salary from March 2005.
