Karaikudi-Tiruchi BG work

MADURAI: The Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, inaugurated the broad gauge conversion works between Karaikudi and Tiruchi, ata function held at the Karaikudi Railway Junction recently.

The work is part of the 151-km stretch between Tiruchi and Manamadurai via Karaikudi, implemented at a cost of Rs 187.91 crore initially, the railways has taken up the 90-km stretch between Karaikudi and Tiruchi, as the first phase. The work is to be completed within 16 months.

The conversion will greatly help tourism in Sivaganga, Pudukottai and Ramanathapuram districts, railway sources said.
