GDP growth

According to a recent survey, GDP has grown by a higher-than-expected 7.4 per cent in the year through the April-June quarter. The growth in GDP may bring some satisfaction to conventional economic planners. But as GDP includes both good and bad products and services GDP increase per se does not reflect the real social conditions.

The economy may be said to be good only when the 250 million poor people of India sport a smile on their faces. Will the Government provide them some succour instead of feeding the people GDP statistics?
