Reliance Energy to set up Haryana thermal plant

Our Special Correspondent

Chandigarh , Sept. 30

THE Haryana Cabinet, which met here today under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, approved the decision of the

Special High Powered Purchase Committee to get a 600-MW thermal power plant set up at Yamunanagar through Reliance Energy Ltd, Noida, on turnkey basis.

The plant is being set up by the Haryana Power Generation Corporation at a greenfield site. The plant is to have two units of 300 MW each, and will be set up at a negotiated sum of Rs 2,097 crore. The first unit will be commissioned within a scheduled period of 30 months.

According to an official spokesperson, Rs 3.49 crore per MW is reported to be the most competitive price for a coal-based thermal plant of this magnitude. He further added that the decision to assign the task to Reliance Energy Ltd was taken after inviting international competitive bids. In all, six parties were found eligible to whom bid documents were issued. Two of them — BHEL and Reliance Energy Ltd — had submitted their bids, which were scrutinised and evaluated by Desein and Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

The Cabinet also decided to set up a State level Sports Persons Selection Committee to fill up 3 per cent of the posts reserved for sports persons in direct recruitment in Group `C' and `D' in various boards,

corporations and departments. The committee will consist of representatives from different departments of the Government, the Haryana Olympic Association, State Association or Federation of the concerned game and experts of the game for which selection would be made.
