K.M. Chandrasekhar is new Revenue Secretary

THE Government on Thursday appointed Mr K.M. Chandrasekhar as the new Revenue Secretary in place of Ms Vineeta Rai, following the latter's retirement.

Mr Chandrasekhar, a 1970 Kerala cadre Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, is presently Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) also approved Mr S. Narayan Menon for the post of Commerce Secretary. The 1969 West Bengal cadre Mr Menon, who is currently Special Secretary in the Commerce Ministry, replaces Mr Dipak Chatterjee on his superannuation.

Other names cleared by the ACC included Ms Komal Anand (Haryana, 1968) as the Secretary, Ministry of Company Affairs (in place of Mr M.M.K. Sardana), Mr Mano Ranjan (Uttar Pradesh, 1969) as Secretary, Ministry of Steel (in place of Ms Binoo Sen) and Mr J. Harinarayan (Andhra Pradesh, 1970) as Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation .

The ACC also upgraded Mr Ajit Kumar Jain, currently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, to the level of Special Secretary in the same Ministry.
