FICCI expects GDP growth to keep momentum

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct. 1

WHILE welcoming the quarterly estimate of GDP of 7.4 per cent for the first quarter of 2004-05, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) said that it would herald a good beginning for the current fiscal year.

The chamber expects that well designed policy interventions to restrain the impact of oil prices and the rolling out of the promised reforms will help sustain the growth momentum into the year. The improved performance was evident across all major sectors - industrial as well as services. The 6.8 per cent industrial growth was the highest over four years while the 9.5 per cent growth in the services sector was the highest across five years.
