TCS beefs up interface with engg colleges

IN a bid to strengthen its relationship with the academia, TCS is reinforcing its faculty development programmes across the country.

This is also to ensure that the right kind of talent enters the company from the college campuses.

The current run of FDPs, conducted in seven cities, will cover 300 faculty members from 150 engineering colleges from across the country.

According to Dr K. Kesavasamy, Head, Academic Interface Programme, Learning and Development, TCS, the programme will train professors in software engineering who, in turn, will train students in the course.

Most of these students have already got offers from TCS during campus recruitment, but they need to clear a test before getting inducted. "This course will help them clear our entrance test," says Dr Kesavasamy.

The professors will get also get financial compensation (Rs 500) for every student who passes the test and gets recruited by TCS.

Talking of how TCS benefits from the programme, he says that the company is trying to make higher education in the country more tuned to industry needs.

"We also get new recruits who are trained beforehand in certain basic areas. This saves the company about 15 days of training time for the freshers," he says.

TCS has several such academic interface programmes: Project support and internship to students, professors on sabbatical to TCS, joint higher education programmes and sponsored course on software engineering for students.
