Maruti Sept sales rise 27 pc

NEW DELHI: Maruti Udyog, India's biggest carmaker, on Friday said its total sales rose by 27 per cent in September 2004. A total of 43,949 units were sold during the review month over 34,543 units sold in September 2003, a company statement said.

However, sales of the company's bread-and-butter model `M800' decelerated by 28 per cent in the month to 9,730 units.

Sales of compact cars — `Alto', `WagonR' and `Zen' — soared 79 per cent at 21,901 units, while combined sales of the Esteem and Baleno rose by 137 per cent.
